Get cosy with these 2022 Autumn Interior Design Trends

Crisp mornings, brilliantly sunny days and soft woollen sweaters: welcome to autumn, Do.Uppers! It’s probably our favourite season, mostly because of the autumn interior design trends that come along to help us transform our homes into havens of rest.

So pop the kettle on, slip on your favourite bed socks and lets explore a few ways you can mark the transition from summer to autumn at home this year.

Reminder: less is more

You don’t need a degree in interior design to know what you like when it comes to furnishing your home. A good rule of thumb for seasonal shifts is this: less is more. While it might be tempting to overhaul your whole home, it doesn’t need to be that drastic (or expensive).

A great place to start is with your living room. As the temperature starts to drop, you might find yourself spending more time indoors – and needing a versatile space to boot. Add a room divider to split the space into dedicated areas for work, reading, games or simply to hide any mess you can’t be bothered to organise (don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone!).

Design for all of your senses

When we want to refresh a space, often we pay far too much attention to how it’s going to look – and less to how it smells, sounds and feels. Design for more than just your eyes this autumn to create a sanctuary you’ll adore as the days get shorter and the nights get longer.

You might invest in creating a signature scent to activate memories of far flung destinations. Or find a vintage record player and pop on some vinyl while you cook a delicious dinner for friends. Or simply introduce plush, soft and tactile soft furnishing to make curling up on the couch a blissful cocoon.

Go natural

As far as autumn interior design trends go, this one applies all year round. There’s been a resurgence in rattan – which, personally speaking, we’re here for – which is a beautiful natural material that can be used in a variety of ways in your home.

Fancy a spot of upcycling this autumn? We’ve got your back. Check out our Large Rattan Cylinder Handle, the perfect finishing touch for kitchen cupboard, dresser drawers or bathroom cabinets. Earthy, warm toned woods are a decorators dream in the cooler months, transforming any space into a little tropical oasis.

Add artisanal textures everywhere

Artisanal homewares matter. From the coasters you found at a country flea market handmade by a local artist, to the wall hooks, drawer knobs and cabinet pulls the Do.Up team ethically sources from makers around the globe: they tell stories, add personality to your home and are a beautiful way to support creatives.

As autumn arrives, it gets cooler, and it’s nice to have tangible reminders of past summer adventures. You might like to add our Large Button Jute Knob to your bedside tables to remind you of that last trip to Bali.

Or, if you’re feeling the pull to ‘turn inwards’ as the temperature drops, it might be time to create a ‘zen den’ for yoga or meditation. If so, the Green Granite Rectangle Pulls are great for transforming an upcycled dresser to store all your wellness tools.
