5 DIY weekend projects to master

5 DIY weekend projects to master
17/03/2022 Averill

Have you run out of things to watch on Netflix or Binge? Or maybe you just don’t feel up to going out this weekend – why not stay in and DIY instead (*fist bump*).

What’s so great about DIY? We’re glad you asked!

The Do-It-Yourself (DIY) industry truly exploded in 2020 and 2021 thanks to ‘old mate Rona’ – and for good reason. Any DIY project gives you a chance to learn a new skill, be more active and even save a few dollarydoos in the process (we think DIY is a win-win for everyone).

To inspire you, here are five DIY weekend projects that won’t break the bank and will give you more bang for your buck as a result.

1. Upcycle a piece of furniture

Let’s get practical: chances are you’re still working from home, so why not freshen up an old desk to reinvigorate your workspace, just like our pal Clare (@lifeonloughnan) has done.

And what a brilliant transformation it is! Spot our Do.Up Ivory Ceramic Star Knob on the desk drawers that add a spark of personality to what was a very old school piece of furniture.

Another great DIY weekend project idea comes from our customer Kate (@whitewickerabode). She’s added our Round Green and Nougat Terrazzo Knob to this bedside drawer along with a splash of green paint to make the drawers really pop (we’re lowkey obsessed).

Here’s one more for you courtesy of Amanda from Oak & Pine Designs. What she’s done with this old TV cabinet is truly spectacular – oh, and peep our Gold Feather Handle on the cabinet doors, too!

2. Curate your very own mini garden

Tight on space? No sweat – it’s time to go vertical. Interior decorating with plants is a quick way to spruce up a tired courtyard or lacklustre balcony, especially when you use plant hangers. Our Rustic White Fish Ceiling Hook is perfect for this – all you need to do is choose your plant babies!

3. Add DIY curtains to your living room

Basic sewing skills? Check. Two pieces of fabric that are at least 2.5m wider than your window? Check. Our Braided Cotton Curtain Tie Back to keep your curtains in order? Also check!

DIY curtains – while a little more time consuming than our other tips – are a less common (but eye-catching) way to personalise your space. You can also use bed sheets if you can’t find a fabric you like (how’s that for zero waste?!).

4. Build a coffee station in the kitchen

Of all the DIY weekend projects mentioned here, we think this one will rev you up! Add a small shelf to a wall in or near your kitchen, then attach some of our Black Double Hooks below the shelf.

Now, you’ll have somewhere to display that uber-fancy pour over kit plus your favourite dorky mugs!

5. Create a mural on your bedroom wall

The wall behind your bedhead is prime real estate for DIY art. You might like to paint a colourful mural there (if you’re allowed to, of course) or install a picture gallery. There are some weird and wacky ways to use Do.Up wall hooks, but we reckon our Small Silver Iron Hooks are perfect for hanging your favourite photo framed memories (naw!).
